Using “broadsides,” a special type of Gospel tract involving humor and a “non-professional” look, 14 members of Prince of Peace-Orlando, FL, on July 29 teamed up with 14 participants from the National Youth Gathering to share Christ.
The group of 28 was trained in street witnessing for about an hour before they “hit the streets” by Rev. Bruce Lieske, member of Prince of Peace. Teams of two distributed 800 Gospel tracts after the early worship service to pedestrians on public sidewalks and in the parking lots of K-Mart, Perkins and McDonald’s. There were a dozen or so witnessing encounters in which the Gospel was shared or people were invited to attend Prince of Peace. One team member assisted an individual carry a bulky box to his car, giving a witness of concern. Prince of Peace members wore blue T-shirts that said “My best friend is Jewish — and yours too — Y’shua.” Y’shua is the Jewish way to say Jesus. Although the neighborhood is predominately Gentile/Latino, a Gospel witness was given to two Jewish people. |
Everyone expressed enthusiasm at the debriefing session, in spite of the hot, muggy weather; and quite a few people said they wanted to “do this again.”
The Missions and Evangelism Committee of Prince of Peace sponsored the event and expressed the opinion that activities like this not only get the Gospel out, but help to catalyze and cultivate a culture of missions and outreach.
Among those participating in the broadsides outreach were (l-r) Prince of Peace-Orlando members Pam Rellstab and Mary Kelley; three youth from Hope-Hastings, MN, and Counselor Tim Spitzack |
