National Offering Tops $400,000
A special national offering themed “Preparing Pastors Worldwide” was initiated by LCMS President Gerald Kieschnick in late May to support seminary education in the United States and abroad.
Bolstered by gifts brought to the 63rd Regular Convention, that offering had reached $409,157 as of July 20. Collections will continue through the next LCMS convention in 2010.
The goal of the offering is to raise at least $1 million to fund the training of Lutheran pastors in the United States and abroad. Two-thirds of the gifts support the Synod’s two seminaries – Concordia Seminary-St. Louis, and Concordia Theological Seminary-Fort Wayne — with the remaining one-third earmaked for seminaries of LCMS partner churches around the world.
